International Improvisation Festival (D#1)
SÍN Cultural Center (1139 Budapest, Gyutacs u. 10-18. www.sinarts.org)
The annual Improvisation Festival has been organized since 2002 and
it is open for people with all abilities. The 5 days long festival
offered different methods to work with the moving self (warm up and
open classes), to study improvisation as well as contact improvisation
from several directions (intensives and projects), and to investigate
music and dance improvisation. This year the program included open labs
and individual sessions led by young Hungarian teachers and theoretical
work with writing, talking, sharing (led by Peter Pleyer). Nancy Stark
Smith (USA) introduced “The Underscore”, a long score for
jamming/contact/improvisation/composition. In the evenings there were
space for open dancing (jam) and the Saturday night for performing.

Karczag Éva (NL/HU) és

Goli Dance Place (1036 Bp. Perc u. 2. tel.: 250-3046)
Karczag Éva és Vicky Shick ’Set and Reset’ workshop: 13-27. September.
Karczag Éva ’Set and Reset’ workshop: 18-25. November
Two of the original cast members of Set and Reset, Éva Karczag and
Vicky Shick, taught a group of dancers of the Budapest Dance School
exact sequences from this 1983 piece, and then engaged them in the same
unique protocol that Trisha Brown asked her dancers to utilize during
its formation. The dancers then generated their own moves, which were
shaped into Set and Reset/Reset, a variation on the original
choreography that is presented in the final performance. Here, as with
her Company in 1983, the dancers are an integral part of both the
creative process and the end result. The Budapest Contemporary Dance
Academy’s version of Set and Reset/Reset began with a two week-long
work period with Karczag and Shick. Following the introduction of the
material and their working methods, the dancers continued developing
the piece on their own, until they re-convened for a short period in
November to make some final decisions. All 14 dancers from both casts
were equally involved in the creation of the current version.
Presentation of the choreography: 15-16th December, 2009. Trafó

Trafó House of Contemporary Arts is organizing "introduction/initiation
dance performances, presentations, workshops and discussions" with
young, emerging dancers and choreographers and secondary school
students in order to help them develop an appreciation for contemporary
dance pieces at a young age. In this special “making your own audience”
project we are working together with young talented dancers, involving
dance teachers with a high level of pedagogy skills and choreographers
so as to invent new forms and methods of thinking about dance and
